Prices of vegetables, essentials mark rise

The prices of some vegetables, soybean oil, rice, sugar, packet powdered milk and garlic showed upward trend in the city’s kitchen markets at the weekend on Friday.
The price of bottled soybean oil rose by Tk three to four per litre, with Teer and Fresh branded oil selling at Tk 102, while Rupchanda brand at Tk 105. A five litre bottle’s MRP was selling at Tk 480 to Tk 515.
Bishwajit Saha, General Manager of City Group told the Media that price rose in the international market also.
Sugar was selling at 68 to 70 per kg, marking an increase by Tk two. According to Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), sugar is selling at 40 per cent higher than that of the last year, the TCB data showed.
Of the vegetables, brinjal was selling at Tk 40 to 50 per kg, bean at Tk 35 to 45, tomato at Tk 40 to 50, potato at Tk 10 to 18, carrot at Tk 30 to 35, bitter gourd at Tk 60 to 70, cucumber at Tk 30, khira at Tk 25 to 30, spone gourd at Tk 90 to 100, turnip at Tk 20 to 25, green pea at Tk 60 to 70, beat at Tk 70, papaya at Tk 25 to 30, french at Tk 60 to 70, snake gourd at Tk 80 to 90,
okra at Tk 70, radish at Tk 20, pumpkin (medium size) at Tk 30 to 50 per piece, bottle gourd at Tk 40 to 50, ash gourd at Tk 20 to 35 per piece, cabbage at Tk 15 to 25, cauliflower at 25 to 30 per piece, coriander leaves at Tk 120 per kg, green chilli at 50 to 60 kg, capsicum (red) at Tk 300 per kg and capsicum (green) at Tk 250 to 260 per kg and spinach Tk five per bundle.
Of fish, local cat fish and barbell were selling at Tk 600 to 650 per kg, batashi at Tk 500, koi (river) at Tk 650, Aire fish at Tk 600 kg, pabda at Tk 710, sheat (boal) at Tk 600 to 700 per kg, cultivated cat fish (Shing) was selling at Tk 350- 550 per kg, barbell (cultivated) at Tk 400 to 600, butter fish at Tk 250 to 300, lobster at Tk 450 to 600 kg, shrimp (River) at Tk 380 -520, puti at Tk 250 per kg, cultivated koi at Tk 130 to 180 per kg, Fali Chanda (Rupchada) at Tk 1050 per kg, walking fish (Shoal) at Tk 400 per kg, lata fish at Tk 180 to 220 and Eel at Tk 600 per kg, Ek-thota (Kaitta fish) at Tk 350 to Tk 400, Baila at Tk 450 to 600 per kg, coral fish at Tk 550 kg, river Pangas at Tk 350 per kg, cultivated Pangas at Tk 130 per kg, Rajputi at Tk 300 per kg, Tilapia at Tk 140 to Tk 200 per kg, Ruhit at Tk 250 to Tk 380 per kg, medium size carp (katol) at Tk 230 -360 per kg.
Beef was selling at Tk 450 to 480 based on quality, beef (without bone) at Tk 650 per kg, buffalo meat at Tk 380 and red meat at Tk 700 to 750.
Chicken (local cock) was selling at Tk 370 per kg, local (hen) at Tk 350, broiler chicken at Tk 150 to 155 per kg, chicken (Pakistani species) at Tk 150 to 180 per piece of 600 to 700gm. Meanwhile, garlic price further increased by Tk 15-25 per kg last week. Imported garlic was selling at Tk 220-230, while the local variety at Tk 190-Tk 210 from the middle of the last week, which traders attributed to the higher import cost.
Newly harvested local onion was selling at Tk 25 per kg and imported Indian onion at Tk 19 per kg. Lentil was selling at Tk 110 to 155 per kg based on quality at retail markets.
The price of coarse rice increased by Tk three to four per kg and it was selling at Tk 37 to 40 per kg, Paijam, Kajol Lata, Parija and Ratna Shail were selling at Tk 38 to 42 at the weekend on Friday. The price of fine varieties increased by Tk two. and Miniket was selling at Tk 47 to 50 and Najirshail at 48 to 52.
