Prices of edible oil, sugar, onion rise further

The prices of edible oil and onion increased further in kitchen markets across the wholesale and retail markets in Kishoreganj.
Traders in Kishoreganj’ s said that the prices of both packaged and unpackaged edible oil went up in the kitchen markets as refiners and companies increased the prices of the items.The refiners recently sent a proposal to the commerce ministry to increase the price of bottled soya bean oil by Tk 5 a litre to Tk 144 a litre from Tk 139 a litre.
The refiners and distributers have already increased the prices of edible oil although the commerce ministry is yet to declare its decision in the matter.
The prices of soya bean oil and palm oil increased by Tk 4-5 a litre over the week in the markets.
A one-litre bottle of soya bean oil sold for Tk 139-144 while five litres of packaged soya bean oil sold for Tk 650-660 on Monday in kitchen markets in Kishoreganj town.
Unpackaged soya bean oil sold for Tk 125-128 a litre and palm oil sold for Tk 115-120 a litre on the day.
The prices of onion increased by Tk 5 a kg over the week and the local variety sold for Tk 40-45 a kg. The imported variety sold for Tk 32–34 a kg over the week .
The prices of rice remained high in Kishoreganj market with the medium quality variety selling for Tk 52-56 a kg on Monday.
The standard variety of Miniket rice sold for Tk 60-62 a kg and the fine variety sold for Tk 63-65 a kg.
The prices of sugar remained high over the week. Refined sugar retailed at Tk 70-72 a kg while the locally produced variety retailed at Tk 72 per a kg .
The price of beef remained high as well and the item sold for Tk 570 -600 a kg on the market.
Mutton sold for Tk 800- 850 900 a kg in the town.
The price of broiler chicken remained unchanged over the week and the item was selling for Tk 135-140 a kg .
The Sonali variety of chicken was selling for Tk 230-240 a kg while the local variety was selling for Tk 470-500 a kg on the day.
The prices of vegetables remained stable in Kishoreganj’s kitchen markets over the week.
Potato was selling for Tk .16-18 a kg while green chilli was selling for Tk 40-50 a kg .
The prices of fish remained unchanged over the week.
The price of eggs fell by Tk 2 a hali over the week. The item was selling for Tk 28-30 a hali or four pieces.
