The price of winter vegetables has remained high despite huge supply in the city’s kitchen markets. Not only that; egg, meat and rice price showed slightly upward trend at the weekend on Friday.
Of vegetables, bean was selling at Tk 60 per kg, brinjal at Tk50 to 60, okra at Tk 50 potato (new) at Tk90, green chilli at Tk 80 to 90, french at Tk 70 to 80, tomato at Tk 90 to 100, tomato green at Tk85 to 90, carrot at Tk 60 to 70 kg, potato (old) at Tk 25 to 30 kg, bitter gourd at Tk 50 to Tk 55 , cucurbitaceous at Tk 50 to 60, cucumber at Tk 25 to 35, spone gourd at Tk 45 to 50, arum at 35 to 45, radish at Tk 25 to 30, papaya at Tk 30, snake gourd at Tk 50 to 55, pumpkin (medium size) at Tk 60 to 70 per piece, cauliflower at Tk 25 to 35 piece, bottle gourd at Tk 55 to 65 piece, ash gourd at Tk 25 to 30 piece, coriander leaves at Tk 200 kg. Capsicum (red) at Tk 300 kg and capsicum (green) at Tk 250 to 300 kg.
The local onion was selling at Tk 50 to 55 per kg, while the imported onion at Tk 45 to 48 kg. Imported garlic was selling at Tk 80 to 90 kg only, and local garlic at Tk 80 kg. Imported ginger marked a rise by Tk five to 10 and was selling at Tk 140 to 150 per kg. The locally produced ginger was selling at Tk 80 to 90 kg based on quality.
Beef is selling for Tk 400 per kg at khilgaon and the red meat at Tk 550 to 600.
A medium size local cock was selling at Tk 380 to 500 per piece and hen at Tk 300 to 370. The boiler chickens’ price stands at Tk 135 to 145 per kg. The egg (farm) was selling at Tk 35 per hali (4 pieces), egg (local) at Tk 50 and egg (duck) at Tk 45 to Tk 48. Pigeon per pair was selling at Tk180 to Tk 250 and four koil birds were selling at Tk 200 based on size.
The red lentil was selling at Tk 130 per kg while the imported item (coarse variety) was selling at Tk 115 kg over the week.
Five liters of Rupchanda brand canned soybean oil was selling at Tk 490 to Tk 505, loose super palm oil at 75 per liter, sugar price at Tk 48 to 50 per kg and molasses at Tk 70 to 120 and flattened rice at Tk 70 to 90.
The coarse rice was selling in retail at Tk 34 to 36 per kg, Pyjam at Tk 40 to 42 kg, Nazirshail brand of rice at Tk 50 to 55 kg, Minicate at Tk 47-54 kg, Kattari bhog at Tk 75, Pillau rice (Badsha bhog) at Tk 90 to 120 kg and Kalijira at Tk 115 to 130 kg only. Coarse flour was selling at Tk40 per kg and a 2-kg packet at Tk 75.
Two pieces of hilsha weighing about 800 grams to one kg were selling at Tk 1600 to 1800 at Karwan Bazar fish market on Friday; while a pair weighing 600 to 700 grams were selling at Tk 1200 to 1400.
