Price of vegetables, green chilli, onion and fine variety of rice increased, while other commodities remained static in the city’s kitchen markets at the weekend on Friday.
So, the people of limited income groups have been struggling to maintain families.
Prices of most of vegetables increased by Tk 10 to 30 a kg in the city markets after recent downpour across the country as most of the vegetable fields were affected by flood.
However, prices of french beans, snake gourd, pointed gourd, ridge gourd, sponge gourd, brinjal, teasel gourd, bitter gourd, green chilli and papaya rose to Tk 50 to Tk 80 a kg on Friday compared with at Tk 35 to Tk 50 a kg a week ago.
Visiting different kitchen markets in Muhammadpur Krishi Market, Karwan Bazar, South Goran, Malibag, Shantinagar and Hatirpool, the reporter observed that green chilli was selling at Tk140 to 180 a kg, brinjal at Tk 50 to 70, potato at Tk 25 to 28, okra at Tk 40 to 50, parble at Tk 45 to 50, raddish at Tk 45, arum at Tk 50 to 60, snake gourd at Tk 50 to 60, french beans at Tk 70 to 80, balsam apple at Tk 70, teasel gourd at Tk 50 to 60, carrot at Tk 80, bitter gourd at Tk 50 to 60, cucumber at Tk 50 to 60, green papaya at Tk 40 to 50, pumpkin (medium size) at Tk 50 to 90 per piece, bottle gourd at Tk 55 to 65, ash gourd at Tk 40 to 50 per piece, cauliflower at Tk 35 to 40 per piece, coriander leaves at Tk300 per kg, capsicum (red) at Tk 350 per kg and capsicum (green) at Tk 250 to 280 per kg. Lemon was selling at Tk five to eight per piece.
Of fishes, Pabda was sold at Tk 600-Tk 750, Golsha at Tk 450-600, Tengra at Tk 400-650, Shing and
Magur at Tk 550-Tk 800 and Shoul at Tk 350 -500 a kg in the city markets. Of other fishes, Butter fish was sold at Tk 300 to 350, sheat (boal) at Tk 500 to 700, lobster at Tk 450 to 600 ,shrimp (River) at Tk 350 to 400, puti at Tk 250 to 450 per kg, cultivated koi at Tk 150 to 180 per kg, Fali Chanda (Rupchanda) at Tk 900 to 1100 per kg, lata fish at Tk 250 to 350 and Eel at Tk 450 to 550 per kg, batashi at Tk 400 to 500, koi (river) at Tk 600, Aire fish at Tk 500 to 700, Baila at Tk 400 to 550 per kg, coral fish at Tk 450 to 600 per kg, river Pangas at Tk 350 per kg, cultivated Pangas at Tk 140 per kg, Rajputi at Tk 300 per kg and Telapia at Tk 150 to Tk 200 per kg.
Hilsha was selling at Tk 900 a kg weighing one kg per piece and Tk 1400 weighing 1.3 kg. At Paksey in Pabna district, hilsha is hardly found.
Rice price is still high. Fine variety of rice like miniket was selling at Tk 58 to 63 per kg, while najirshail at Tk 58 to 64 per kg based on quality. The Bashmoti were selling at Tk 56 to 63 per kg.
Local onion was sold at Tk 35-Tk 40 while imported varieties at Tk 25 to Tk 34 a kg.
Farm chicken was selling at Tk 165 to Tk 170 per kg, Pakistani chicken at Tk 160 to 250 per piece, farm eggs were selling at Tk 30 to 34 per haali and egg (duck) at 44 to 50 per ha Beef was selling at Tk 490-Tk 520 per kg and mutton at Tk750 to 800 kg.
