Price of essentials go up ahead of Ramzan

The prices of chickpea, indigenous fish, khesari and other pulses, loose edible oil, meat, and potato increased further at the weekend on Friday.
The traders have been raising the prices of different items ahead of holy Ramzan despite repeated warnings issued by the government. They are ignoring, even their assurance that prices would remain at tolerable rate.
The prices of farm chicken soared significantly after the Dhaka South City Corporation fixed meat price on Thursday. Meanwhile, the supply being short of demand, it has adverse impact in the fish market. For example, Mola fish sells at Tk 450 per kilo at South Goran.
The price of broiler and layer chickens has gone up by Tk 35 to 40 per kg. Broiler, which was sold at Tk 130 to Tk 140 per kilo last month, now sells at Tk 170 to Tk 180.
The price of farm chickens also increased to Tk 175-Tk 180 (broiler) per kg and layer chicken to Tk 200-Tk 210 (layer) per kg between Saturday and Sunday.
The beef was sold at Tk 400-Tk 450, buffalo meat at Tk 400-Tk 420 and red meat (khashi) at Tk 590-Tk 600 per kg on Friday, increased by Tk 15 per kg in a week.
Prices of indigenous fishes including hilsa, golsha, pabda, shing, magur, shrimp, puti, batashi, kajoli, tengra, shoul, riverine rui and katla etc increased by Tk 50-Tk 80 per kg on Friday.
Local variety of Cat fish (Shing) was selling at Tk 480- 600 per kg, barbell (magur) at Tk 600 to 800, butter fish (pabda) at Tk 500 to 700, lobster at Tk 600 to 800 kg, shrimp (river) at Tk 450-550 kg, puti at Tk 270 per kg, puti (live) at Tk 350 kg, kholisa at Tk 250, chapila at Tk 400, cultivated koi at Tk 170 to 200 per kg and koi (river) at Tk 600, fali chanda (rupchada) at Tk 1100 kg, chanda (small) at Tk 200 kg, walking fish (Shoal) at Tk 300 kg and eel at Tk 400 to 600 kg, sheat (boal) at Tk 350 to 800 kg, Ek-thota (kaitta fish) at Tk 350 to Tk 400, baila at Tk 450 to 600 kg, coral fish at Tk 550 kg, river pangas at Tk 350 kg, cultivated pangas at Tk 130 kg, rajputi at Tk 300 kg, tilapia at Tk 140 to Tk 200 kg, ruhit at Tk 250 to Tk 380 kg, medium size carp (katol) at Tk 230 -360 per kg.
The egg (farm) was selling at Tk 35 per hali (four pieces), egg (local) at Tk 45 to 50 and egg (duck) at Tk 45 to Tk 48. Pigeon (per pair) was selling at Tk 180 to Tk 250 and four  
koil birds at Tk 200 only. Of vegetables, Teasle gourd was selling at Tk 70 per kg, potato at Tk 20 to 25 , tomato at Tk 40 to 55, brinjal at Tk40 to 50, green chilli at Tk 70 to 80, french at Tk 40 to 45, carrot at Tk 45, bitter gourd at Tk 30 to Tk 35, moringa oleifera (sajna data) at Tk 80, cucumber at Tk 25 to 30, spone gourd at Tk 45 to 50, arum at 45 to 50, papaya at Tk 30, pumpkin (medium size) at Tk 25 to 45 per piece, broccoli at 35 to 40, bottle gourd at Tk 30 to 40, ash gourd at Tk 25 to 30 piece, coriander leaves at Tk 250 kg, capsicum (red) at Tk 300 kg and capsicum (green) at Tk 250 to 300 kg.
Five liters of Rupchanda brand canned soybean oil was selling at Tk 485, Rupchanda (two litres) at Tk 188, and loose super palm oil at 78 per liter, sugar price at Tk 58 to 65 per kg and molasses at Tk 70 to 120 and flattened rice at Tk 70 to 90, the red lentil at Tk 140 per kg, while the imported lentil at Tk 155 kg and mash at 130 per kg.
The coarse rice was selling at Tk 32 to 34 per kg, pyjam at Tk 40 to 42 kg, nazirshail brand of rice at Tk 44 to 52 kg, minicate at Tk 44 to 50 kg, kattari bhog at Tk 75, pillau rice (Badsha bhog) at Tk 90 to 120 kg and kalijira at Tk 115 to 130 kg only. Coarse flour was selling at Tk40 per kg and a 2-kg packet at Tk 75.
Green mango was selling at Tk 30 to 120 per kg, pineapple at Tk 20 to 40 per piece, watermelon at Tk150 to 350 as per piece and guava at Tk 80 120 per kg.
Local onion was selling at 45 per kg while imported onion at Tk 25 to 32. Local garlic was selling at Tk120 to 140 on Friday while imported garlic was selling at Tk230 t0 250 per kg. Ginger was selling at Tk70 to 130 per kg.
