The prices of beef rose by about 12 to 20 percent in two months in the city’s kitchen markets, but that of onion, garlic and a number of vegetables fell for abundant supply.
Beef was selling at Tk 360 per kg, red meat at Tk 550, boiler at Tk 170 to 175, and every local fowl from Tk 350 to 550 based on size. The beef and red meat was selling at Tk 300 to 320 per kg and at Tk 400-450 respectively before the start of the ongoing blockade and hartal.
Pigeon was selling at Tk 180 to 210 a pair and bird quyel at Tk 200 per four members. The egg (chicken) was selling at Tk 28 per hali (4 pieces) and egg (duck) at Tk 40 to Tk 44.
Horse radish and parbal were selling at Tk 100 and Tk 60 per kg respectively. Of others vegetables, balsam apple was selling at Tk 60 to 70 per kg, green chilli at Tk 60 to 70, bean at Tk 25 to 30, brinjal at Tk 40 to 50, snake gourd at Tk 50, bitter gourd at Tk 50 to 60, french at Tk 80, okra Tk 60 to 70, cucumber at Tk 30 to 35, tomato at Tk 30, potato at Tk10 to 14, carrot at Tk 25 to 30, cauliflower at Tk 20 to 30, cabbage at Tk 20 per piece, teasel gourd at Tk 60, zucchini at Tk 50 to 60, gourd at Tk 40 to 60 piece based on size and coriander leaves at Tk 100 per kg.
Barbal and the scorpion fish were selling at Tk 700 to Tk 800 per kilo each, ruhit at Tk 280 to 450, carp at Tk 230 to Tk 400, lobster at Tk 1,000 to 1,200, pangas at Tk 170 to 200, tilapia at Tk 180 to Tk 230, mola for Tk 250, climbing fish at Tk 250 to 600, lata at Tk 200 to Tk 300, tatkini at Tk 230 to Tk 250, sheat fish at Tk 300 to Tk 500, small fry fish for Tk 250 and butter fish at Tk 660 to Tk 700. Sea fishes Marcel were selling at Tk250 to 270, Surma fish at Tk 280 to 340 and Hilsh medium size was selling at Tk 600 to 800. Besides, the price of different kinds of dry fishes also increased by about Tk 20 to 50 per kg.
Prices of finer varieties like Miniket, Najirshail, Biridhan-28, Biridhan-29 (haski), Paijam and Kajol Lata declined by Tk 2-3 per kg at the major wholesale markets in the city in last seven days. Different qualities of Biridhan-28 and 29 were selling between Tk36 and 40 per kg, Miniket at Tk 42 and Tk 45, Najirshail at Tk 46-50, BR-11 at Tk 30-31, Swarna at Tk 28-30 per kg at Babu Bazar, Badamtoli, Jatrabari, Kochukhet and Mohammadpur wholesales on Friday.
The price of different varieties of red lentil also rose by Tk four per kg and it was selling between Tk 80 and Tk 135, Mash sells at Tk 84, gram at Tk 70 and green gram at Tk 120.
The price of bottled soybean oil (five liters) remained unchanged and it was selling at Tk 490-Tk 510 in the city’s kitchen markets. The unpacked soybean oil was retailing at Tk 85 to 95 per litre.
Local onion were selling at Tk 40 to 44 per kg, imported onion at Tk35, imported garlic was selling at Tk 90 to 100 per kg and local one at Tk 60 to 70. Imported ginger was selling at Tk 110 to 130, local produce at Tk 80 to Tk 90 only.
