Price fall in large-caps drives stocks down

Stock markets closed on Wednesday with downward trend due mainly to price fall in large-cap securities despite higher transactions.
The falling major sectors were engineering, financial institutions and IT sector. A total of 149 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.
The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 12.90 points down at 5,936.35. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 1.37 points down at 1,384.20 and with 0.03 point down at 2,216.14.
The day’s trade value at DSE increased to Taka 398.13 crore from Tuesday’s Taka 322.84 crore and the daily trade rose to 9.07 crore shares from 8.28 crore shares of the previous session.
At DSE, out of the day’s 334 securities, prices of 108 securities closed higher against 177 losing issues.
The major gaining issues were USMANIAGL, Monno Stafflers, Green Delta Insurance, Dutch Bangla Bank and GEMINISEA. The major losing companies were OIMEX, Eastern Insurance, ILFSL, Fareast Finance, ITC and Nahee Aluminum Composite Panel.
Beximco Pharma topped the turnover list, followed by Lanka Bangla Finance, USMANIAGL, ILFSL and City Bank.
