Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

Stock markets closed the second session of the week on Tuesday with downward trends due mainly to price fall in large-cap securities.
The falling major sectors were food and allied, ceramics, engineering and pharmaceutical and chemicals. A total of 165 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.
The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 48.64 points down at 6,127.80. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 10.97 points down at 1,414.47 and with 26.96 points down at 2,267.01.
The day’s trade value at DSE declined to Taka 399.23 crore from Monday’s Taka 413.16 crore and the daily trade decreased to 9.67 crore shares from 10.42 crore shares of the previous session.
At DSE, out of the day’s 337 securities, prices of 96 securities closed higher against 201 losing issues.
The major gaining issues were Monno Stafflers, KBPPWBIL, Metro Spinning, Monno Ceramics and Takaful Insurance. The major losing companies were BANGAS, SP Ceramics, OIMEX, BXSYNTH and Imam Button.
GP topped the turnover list followed by City Bank, Monno Ceramics, Naheea Capital and BD Finance.
