Stock markets closed the second session of the week on Monday with downward trends due mainly to price fall in large-cap securities despite higher transactions.
The falling major sectors were financial institutions, textile, insurance and engineering. A total of 173 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.
The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 34.42 points down at 6,302.46. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 12.36 points down at 2,267.64 and with 7.26 points down at 1,386.99.
The day’s trade value at DSE increased to Taka 928.91 crore from Sunday’s Taka 790.84 crore and the daily trade declined to 26.91 crore shares from 23.05 crore shares of the previous session.
