Prevention of corruption to improve standard of public service stressed

Speakers at a meeting have stressed for preventing corruption to improve standard of public services being provided by the local government bodies and government departments in building a corruption-free Bangladesh.
Kawnia upazila unit of corruption prevention committee with the assistance of RDRS Bangladesh, reputed NGO, organised the meeting at Shaheedbag union parishad hall room under Kawnia upazila here on Thursday.
The NGO extended cooperation in arranging the meeting under its Justice Reform and Corruption Prevention (JRCP) Project of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs being implemented with assistance of German Development Cooperation (GIZ).
Officer-in-Charge of Kawnia Thana Rezaul Karim attended the meeting as the Chief Guest with Chairman of Shaheedbag union parishad Abdul Hanna in the chair.
President of Kawnia upazila unit of corruption prevention committee Nazir Ahmed and its General Secretary Awlad Hossain addressed the meeting as special guests.
A large number of common people, members of the union parishad and its different standing committees, civil society members, professionals and community leaders participated in the meeting moderated by District Manager of JRCP Project Ershad Rasel.
The union parishad chairman answered various questions asked by the people on the process of different services being provided to the common people by the local government body at the grassroots level.
The speakers stressed for adopting work plans by the union parishad bodies, involving local community people and informing the local administrations, to ensure accountability in the process of providing services to the common people preventing corruption.
They put emphasis on creating public awareness and educating the young generations on the values of honesty to make the hard-earned Independence meaningful for every citizen through rooting out corruption from the society.
The chief guest said stringent actions should be taken for prevention of corruption through launching vigorous social movement involving the people from all walks in life, including the young generations, youths and students.
