A press conference on BT Brinjal was held in the seminar room of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) in Gazipur on Thursday last. Journalists of different print and electronics media were present on the occasion.
BARI Director General Dr Rafiqul Islam Mondol informed the media people about the invention, kind, merit and demerits of the BT Brinjal.
While speaking Rafiqul said this brinjal is a very popular and also available all over the country. He also said that the farmers can product and preserve seeds of this brinjal themselves as it is not hybrid, as a result farmers don’t have need to go to any company to buy seed.
Environment remain healthy as using of pesticides to produce this brinjal is very limited and its production cost is not higher than other brinjals, consequently, the farmers can get more profit by cultivating BT Brinjal, he added.
At least four sensitization workshops with vice-chancellors of public universities, deputy directors and regional directors of Agriculture Extension Department were held to make people conscious about the merits of BT Brinjal, DG said. The brinjal is not detrimental to human bodies, he added.
The press conference was attended, among others, by Director (Research) Dr Khaled Sultan, Director (Training and Communication) Dr Mukhlesur Rahman, Director (Service and Supply) Dr Shamsun Nur and Chief Scientific Officer of Bio-technology Department Dr Al Amin.
