President urges teachers not to compromise with principle

President Abdul Hamid on Saturday urged to the teachers not to compromise principle and ideal for personal interest to uphold their own dignity.
The news and reports recently published in the mass media about the county’s universities shocked me as the Chancellor.
The university almost teachers, instead of taking part in the education and research activities, keep busy in lobbying for getting different administrative posts and designations nowadays. They do not hesitate using their students for their personal interests. Besides, some of them, forgetting the teachers-students’ relationship, also get involved in exchanging money for their mutual interests that is of very disgrace and dishonor’.
The president came up with the remarks while addressing at Rajshahi University eleventh convocation held on Saturday at the university stadium.
Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni, addressed the programme as special guest while eminent historian Professor Ranjan Chakrabarti, the Vice-Chancellor of Vidyasagar University, Kolkata, India, addressed the convocation as convocation speaker.
The Chancellor said that the university teachers keep in mind that they are the university teachers. People want to see them in the highest place of honour and dignity. So, they should not do compromise with principals and ideal for their personal interest. They have to uphold their own dignity and also to take the responsibility so that the ideals got suppressed to the personal interests.
Addressing on the convocation programme, he also said, they have political view may be different from others, as they are politically very conscious persons. But they must ensure that its negative affects cannot fall on the institution or its students.
He said that, to make the huge amount of youth society as skilled manpower, there is no alternative of establishing university at a proportionate rate. Considering this, the government has taken different initiative to set up a university at every district across the country that will play a positive role in turning Bangladesh into developed and rich country by 2041.
Besides, The Chancellor also urged the graduate students to uphold the ideal of truth and justice in their future life and also to protest against corruption and irregularities with morality and consistency.
Education Minister Dipu Moni said, “The university teachers will not only taught the students but also they also will kept an important role to establishing a good nation. Even, it is very necessary to make students as skillful in an appropriate way in research sectors.”
