President, PM urge all to plant trees

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday called upon all to strengthen tree plantation campaign across the country.
They made the call in separate messages on the eve of National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair- 2015.
In his message, President Abdul Hamid said trees are essential for life and livelihood. The contribution of trees is immense in meeting demands for food, clothes, house, education and medical treatment, he added.
The role of trees is also important in maintaining environmental and ecological balance as well as it helps build green economy, the president added.
“Although Bangladesh is a small country, we have flat land including hilly and coastal areas, where we can plant more saplings of various species of trees to maintain our environmental balance,” he added.
In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said it is important to plant saplings of trees to build a prosperous Bangladesh.
In view of the threat of climate change, it has been essential to gear up the national tree plantation campaign by plating more trees on lands including around homesteads, road sides and other open places, to protect environment as well as to ensure economic prosperity.
Besides this, the government has adopted plantation as a nationally important programme for its importance in poverty alleviation, employment generation and socio-economic developments, she said.
She congratulated the recipients of ‘Prime Minister’s National Award 2014’ for plantation and ‘Bangabandhu Award for Wildlife Conservation-2015.’
The Prime Minister urged all irrespective of political affiliations to take part in tree plantation campaign and wished all success of the National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair 2015.
