President, PM hope for prosperity of jute sector

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday hoped that the National Jute Day being observed for the first time in the country today (Monda) would help accelerate prosperity of the jute sector.
The labour-intensive jute sector is contributing inclusively to the socio-economic development of the country, they said in separate messages on the eve of the day.
President Hamid in his message said the target of our liberation war was political liberty along with economic emancipation and due to this Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had nationalized all the jute and textile mills. Bangabandhu attached special importance to jute research, said he. The jute sector is now making glorious contribution again to the country’s economy due to modernization of the state owned jute mills, he said. “Bangladesh has successfully achieved the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) of the United Nations and the country will succeed in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, he said, adding that the environment friendly jute will play a pivotal role in this regard.” Terming jute as the second largest foreign exchange earning sector of the country, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said in her message that the jute sector is playing an important role in socio-economic development of the country.
