President, PM greet Hindu community on Ratha Yatra

President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday greeted members of the Hindu community on the occasion of Ratha Yatra, the chariot festival of Sri Jagannath Dev and a major religious festival.
In separate messages on the eve of the festival, they wished successes of all programmes.
In his message, President Hamid said the Ratha Yatra, a significant religious festival of the Hindu community, is being observed in the country with due respect and religious solemnity from the ancient time.
“Different great human beings have arrived in this world in different ages to remove lawlessness and establish peace. They have made relentless efforts to bring together the world with the spirit of harmony,” the President said.
He hoped that the Ratha Yatra festival will play an effective role in spreading unity, affection and harmony among the people of all religions.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, said Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony. She said the followers of different religions, who are living together here for long, have set a unique example of communal harmony and amity.
The premier said after the independence, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had ensured religious freedom in the country.
In continuation of that, all the people of the country irrespective of caste, creed and religion are observing their respective religions independently, she added.
