President, PM call for upholding rights of elderly people

The International Day of Older Persons- 2014 will be observed across the country as elsewhere around the globe today with a call for promoting a society for all.
The theme of the day this year is “Leaving No One Behind: Promoting a Society for All”.
Both the government and NGOs as well as local and international charities have chalked out various programmes to observe the day.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have given separate messages on the eve of the day calling upon all to uphold the dignity and rights of elderly people in society.
The President hoped that different organizations levels will play a constructive effective role along with the government for the welfare of the older persons.
He said the older persons are respected people and they have immense contributions to the development and progress.
It is the moral obligation of society to take necessary measures so that the older persons can live in peace, happiness and dignity in the rest of his life, he added.
In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed her hoped that international and regional efforts for ensuring welfare of the older persons would be more expedited.
