President for extra curriculum activities for flourishing of talents

President Abdul Hamid has asked the authorities of National University to give emphasis on extra curriculum activities like culture and sports for helping students flourish their talents properly.
The President said this when a delegation of National University (NU) led by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Harun-or-Rashid made a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban here on Monday, President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told BSS.
“As the NU is carrying out the responsibility of imparting education to the highest number of students, it needs to attach importance to extra curriculum activities to help students flourish their talents properly,” said Abdul Hamid who is also the Chancellor of the university.
He underscored the need for encouraging freethinking in the university and asked the authorities to take initiatives to increase the quality of education keeping pace with the global standard.
During the meeting, the delegation invited the President to join its first convocation of the 23-year old university to be held next year. The convocation will also be held in its seven regional centres through video conference, they added.
They apprised Abdul Hamid of the academic activities of the NU and said steps have already been taken to introduce new disciplines, including tourism and hospitality, in the colleges under the university.
The delegation also informed the President that most of the academic and administrative activities of the university have been brought under digital system. The university has also taken steps to introduce awards for best academic performance of the colleges, they added.
