President for ensuring congenial atmosphere on campuses

President M Abdul Hamid asked university authorities to take necessary steps to ensure a congenial atmosphere for academic, extra-curricular and research activity in the universities of the country.
The President came up with the directive on Sunday when the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed and acting VC of Chattogram University (CU) Prof Dr Shirin Akhter, separately, called on him at Bangabhaban here.
Later, President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin briefed newspersons about the meetings.
Noting the present era is one of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), the President asked the university authorities not to keep the students confined to academic activities only and stressed on research to keep pace, globally.
The head of the state suggested the authorities concerned to take specific programme on research on priority basis at all public and private universities so that they could compete with any institution, internationally.
The SUST VC apprised the President of overall activity of the university and also handed over an annual report of 2014-15 fiscal to him during the meeting.
Prof Farid Uddin invited the President, also Chancellor of the university, to preside over the upcoming SUST convocation. Abdul Hamid gave a patient hearing to him and assured him of providing all necessary cooperation.
During the meeting with the acting VC of CU Dr Shirin Akhter the President emphasised on the role of extra-curricular activity at the university. Secretaries concerned to the president were present.
