President election Feb 18

The 21st President of Bangladesh will be elected by the Jatiya Sangsad on February 18.
The Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda said it on Thursday, while announcing the election schedule in the Election Commission office.
According to the schedule, the date of submission of nomination papers is February 5, scrutiny February 7 and the last date of withdrawal of nomination paper February 10.
The tenure of the incumbent President Md Abdul Hamid will expire on April 23. According to the Constitution, the President must be elected by the members of the Parliament.
According to the Parliament Secretariat, the running 19th session will continue till February 28. Hence the voting will take place in this session.
The Article 123 of the Constitution says, the election shall be held within the period of ninety to sixty days prior to the date of expiry of the term.
On February 24 in the year 2013, Md. Abdul Hamid, former speaker of the Parliament was elected the country’s 20th President unopposed.
