People formed a human chain urged the government to preserve the memorial home of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and his wife Promila Nazrul at Teota village under Shibalaya Upazila in Manikganj. Promila-Nazrul Smriti Sangrakkhan Parishad and Banshari jointly orrganized the human chain at Manikganj Press Club premises of the district Town on Tuesday.
Promila-Nazrul Smriti Sangrakkhan Parishad’s President Miajan Kabir presided and Organizing Secretary Timuni Khan Reeno conducted the hour-long human chain where former member of parliament of Manikganj-1 constituency Engn ABM Anwarul Haque, President of Manikganj District Unit of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) prof Abul Islam Shikdar, president and general secretary of district unit of Jatiya Samajntrik Dal (JSD) respectively -freedom fighter Afzal Hossain Khan Joki and Aslam Khan Babu, President of District Committee of Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee Dipak Kumar Ghosh, Founder of Online Press Institute, journalist and columnist Momin Mehedi, research secretary of International Nazrul Research Center, agriculturist Rafiqul Islam Chowdhury, senior vice-president of Promila-Nazrul Smriti Sangrakkhan Parishad Masleh Uddin Khan Majlish, representative of Banshori Mahbubur Rahman, freedom fighter Rekha Rani Goon, actor Tapas Sarkar, president of district committee Nazrul-Promila Parishad Mozammel Hossain Khan Babar, women leader Khandkar Jinatunnesa Moushumi and others addressed.
They said that the home of Teota village under Shivalaya Upazila of Manikganj is the memory of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and his wife Promila Nazrul, is going to be ruined by the conspiracy of a class of self-interested circles. They demanded to preserve this home in Teota, the birthplace of poet’s wife Ashalata Sen alias Dolan Devi Duli alias Promila Nazrul.
They said that Promila Nazrul was born on May 10, 1908 in this Teota village. She spent her childhood and youth in this village. After the death of Promila’s father Basanta Kumar Sen, she stayed at her uncle Indrakumar Sen’s work place in Kandirpar of Cumilla district with mother Giribala. Promila met the poet for the first time there.
Before and after the marriage of the poet with Promila, the poet Nazrul visited Manikganj district town and Teota’s home many times.
The image of Teota is revealed in the poem ‘Chhoto Hitler’ written by the poet. And in the short story ‘Hara Chheler Chithi’, the poet describe about Teota. Poet Nazrul walked around in the desert under the shadow of Teota village situated on the banks of Jamuna. The birthplace of Nazrul-Pramila has become a pilgrimage site today.
They urged the government to establish Nazrul-Promila Tourism Center, Nazrul-Promila Research Center, Nazrul-Promila Memorial Library, Nazrul-Promila Museum by preserving this home, the memorial of Nazrul-Promila.
Later, they also submitted a memorandum to the deputy Commissioner of Manikganj. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Sanwarul Haque received memorandum on behalf of the Deputy Commissioner.
