Preparations for celebrating Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of Hindu community have been progressing fast in Gopalganj as the festival date is coming nearer.
Erection of idols of Goddess Durga is almost completed at several puja mandaps in five upazilas of the district.
The four -day festival will begin on Oct. 1 with due religious fervour . The festival will be ended on Oct. 4 through celebration of Bijoya Dashami.
A total of 1077 puja mandaps will be created in five upazilas including Gopalganj city. Among them 275 puja mandaps in Gopalganj Sadar Upazila, 217 in Kasiani Upazila, 252 in Kotalipara Upazila , 259 in Muksudpur Upazila and 75 in Tungipara Upazila this year.
BSS from Khulna reports: Hundreds of sculptors are working round the clock in the district to give finishing touches to Goddess Durga as the greatest festival of Hindu community is knocking on the door which is scheduled to be held on September 29.
Generel Secretary of Khulna City Unit Puja Udjapon Committee Prashanto Kundu told BSS “Pals (idol makers) are now very busy for making of some 858 idols in the district. They are touching their last colour to decorate idols”.

Each artisan takes contact of making idols for three to four mondops every year, he added.
BSS from Rajshahi adds: Hundreds of Hindu community people of all ages are rushing to the markets and purchasing Necessary preparations for Durga Puja are on the final stage in the city and nine upazilas of the district where all-time record number idols of Goddess Durga will be erected this year, officials and leaders of the Puja Udjapan Parishad said.

The district administration and Puja Udjapan Parishad Committee (PUPCs) sources said a total of 70 puja mandaps were set up this year in the metropolis while 338 in nine upazilas of the district.
