Preparations afoot to celebrate Independence Day today

Khulna district administration and Khulna city and district units of Awami
League have taken massive programmes to observe the 48th Independence Day.
To observe the day, Khulna district administration has taken elaborate programmes at a preparatory meeting held on March 7 at the conference room of deputy commissioner office here.
Chaired by Khulna deputy commissioner Aminul Ahsan, freedom fighters, elites, officials, educationists, journalists, political and cultural activists of the city attended the meeting.
The Independence Day will be heralded by a 31-gun salute at dawn on Khulna Police Lines ground.
Khulna divisional commissioner Md Lokman Hossain Mia will hoist the national flag at Khulna Stadium.
Khulna Shishu Academy will organise an art and painting competitions for children on the occasion.
A discussion and reception for the freedom fighters will be held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner’s office on the day.
On the occasion, special prayers will be offered at mosques, temples, churches and other religious institutions, seeking divine blessings for peace and progress of the country.Improved diet will be served at all hospitals, orphanage centres and jail marking the day.
State-run Khulna Betar will broadcast special programmes while the local newspapers will bring out special supplements on the occasion.
Khulna BISIC will organise two-day handicraft fair on Khulna Public hall premises. Besides, Khulna city and district units of Awami League have chalked out different programme to observe the day.
Khulna University (KU), Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, Khulna Press Club, Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ), 1971: Genocide and Tortured Archive Museum and different socio-cultural and political parties will observe the Independence Day in befitting manners.
BSS from Rajshahi reports: The city corporation and district administration along with various political, social and cultural organizations and educational institutions including Rajshahi University chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the Independence and National Day here tomorrow with much enthusiasm and patriotic zeal.
The day’s programmes will begin with heralding of 31 gun salutes at Police Line and placing of floral wreaths at the altar of the city’s Shaheed Miners at the zero hours.
The programmes also include hoisting of national flag atop all government, semi-government, private and public buildings, institutions, reception to the Freedom Fighters (FFs) and screening of documentary films at different cinema halls and other open places.A combined march-past of the police, ansar-VDP, fire service, BNCC, scouts, girl guides, jail guards and students of different educational institutions will be held at district stadium in the morning.
Divisional Commissioner will hoist the national flag and witness the march- past and physical display.
At noon, the valiant freedom fighters will be accorded reception at Shilpakala Academy conference hall.
Sports and discussion will be organized for the women on Riverview Collectorate School ground in the afternoon.
Competition on arts, rendering patriotic songs and poetry recitation will also be held for the school and college students on the occasion.
Improved diets will be served among the inmates of hospitals, prison, safe homes, orphans and SOS.
Special prayers will be arranged at the city’s mosques after zohr prayers and different other places of worships, seeking divine blessings for peace and progress of the nation.
In the afternoon, friendly football matches between different teams will be held at district stadium marking the day.
BSS from Rangpur adds: The common people are ready to celebrate the great Independence and National Day-2018 through various colourful programmes amid huge festivity yesterday. The celebration this year bears special significance following achieving the criteria of graduation of the country to a developing nation from the LDC status.
The district administration, Rangpur City Corporation, government departments, Awami League (AL) and its associate bodies, other political parties, socio-cultural, professional and business bodies and educational institutions have completed preparations to celebrate the day.
The celebration will begin through heralding 31 gun salutes on Police Lines ground and placing of wreaths at ‘Swadhinota Smritistambha Arjan’ and ‘Shaheed Muktijoddha Smritistambha’ (Monument of Martyred Freedom Fighters) here at zero hours on the day.
City Mayor Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) for Rangpur Range Khondker Golam Faruk, Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib and Police Super Mizanur Rahman will place wreaths.
Leaders of AL and its associate bodies, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad, BNP, Jatiya Party, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, Gano Forum, Ganatantry Party, Communist Party of Bangladesh, Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal, Workers Party and other organisations will place wreaths at those places subsequently.
Later, heads of government departments and educational institutions, representatives of socio-cultural, volunteer and professional organisations, NGOs and common people from all walks in life will place wreaths there.
The daylong programmes also include hoisting of the national flag atop all government, semi-government, private and public buildings, educational institutions and other establishments.
The main streets and roadside islands will be decorated with the national flag, posters and miniatures and the government, semi-government and private buildings will be illuminated in the divisional city.

Rendering of the national anthem at Rangpur Stadium followed by hoisting of the national flag and march pasts of the Freedom Fighters, police, Ansar-VDP, scouts, girls in scout, fire service and civil defense personnel, jail guards, BNCC, students, children will be organised there.
Shooting, drawing competitions for children on the War of Liberation, charity football matches, sports competitions, screening of documentary films on the War of Liberation, cultural functions and prize distribution ceremonies will be organised at different venues.
The freedom fighters, family members of martyred freedom fighters and their relatives will be accorded receptions and special discussion on the War of Liberation and independence for women will be arranged in the afternoon.
Special prayers will be offered at all mosques, temples, pagodas and churches and improved diets will be served to the inmates of all hospitals, jails, vagabond centers, Shishu Paribar and orphanages.
Rangpur Kendra of Bangladesh Betar will air special programmes and local dailies, weeklies, monthlies and online newspapers will publish special supplements glorifying importance and dignity of the day.
The district administration will arrange the main discussion to be followed by prize distribution ceremony on the Central Shaheed Minar premises at night.
Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed will address the main discussion as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib in the chair.
