Preparations afoot to celebrate Durga Puja in Bagerhat

Brisk preparations are afoot here to celebration 5-day long Durga Puja, the greatest religious festival of Bengali Hindu community commences in Bagerhat district town and it’s all the nine Upazilas on October 22 (Thursday) with religious fervour, gaiety, solemnity, peaceful and happy atmosphere and maintaining social distance and health rules as directed by the government. According to the belief of the Hindu community, this year Goddess Durga will appear on the earth by litter and will leave the same by elephant.
According to Abonish Chakrabarty (Sona), General Secretary of Bagerhat district unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad (BPUP), as many as 637 Puja Mandops (pandels) are being erected in Bagerhat district town and it’s all the nine Upazilas. The number of Puja Mandops in the district town is 13 while the number of Upazila wise Puja Madnops is 153 in Chitalmari, 115 in Bagerhat Sadar, 76 in Morrelganj, 84 in Mollahat, 67 in Fakirhat, 42 in Kachua, 39 in Rampal, 37 in Mongla and 24 in Sharankhola. The highest number of Puija Mandaps, 153 in number, is being erected in Chitalmari Upazila.

Every year the biggest Puja Mandop of the district as well as in the country used to erect at Shikdarbari within Khanpur Union Parishad under Sadar Upazila with the initiative of a business magnate named Lyton Shikdar. But this year Durga Puja will be celebrated ther in a limited programme due to corona pandemic.
Both the district and police administrations of Bagerhat will take all the necessary steps so that Durga Puja can be celebrated in a peaceful and happy atmosphere throughout the district.
