Users of the prepaid power meter in Sylhet on Sunday staged a demonstration demanding immediate step to set up sufficient vending stations and recharge centres in the city to reduce their sufferings for collecting recharge cards.
They made the call from a rally after forming a human chain under the banner of Prath Vraman Club, a club of the morning walkers, in front of the electricity office at Shahjalal Upashahar in the city in the morning.
Mentioning there is only one vending station in the city for more than 30,000 prepaid power meter users, speakers at the rally said that the government had launched the prepaid meter system to provide trouble-free service. ‘But, we had to stay in long queue for hours to recharge the power cards because of acute shortage of the recharge centre,’ they alleged.
They demanded recharge centres and vending stations at all wards in the city corporation area and sufficient staff to facilitate the clients with better service.
Prath Vraman Club President Kawsar Ahmad chaired the rally that was addressed, among others, by its general secretary engineer Mahmudur Rashid Masrur, physician Md Abdul Wahid and Shamimur Rahman, Professor Abdus Sobhan, Sylhet City Corporation former councillor Syed Misbah Uddin, lawyer Abdul Mannan Aslami, government service holder Abdul Muktadir, Ruhel Alam Siddiqui and Kawsar Ahmad Haydari and businessman Akter Uddin Chowdury, Enam Uddin and Helal Uddin.
