Holy Ramzan: Prayer is a must

block
Abdul Muqit Chowdhury :
It has been observed in the month of Ramzan that some people, though observing fasting with great zeal, are not sincere and serious in their Salat (Namaz/Prayer) through the whole year. They should bear in
mind that Salat is the second Rukn (Pillar) of Islam. It is after the first Rukn Iman (Faith). So, Salat should be given highest preference and observed regularly though the whole year including the obligotory fasting days. It helps us to achieve physical, ethical and spiritual gain. Fasting without regularity in Prayer is a deviation from basic Islamic concept and top ritual. Salat (Namaz) and Siyam (Roza/fasting) – both have been emphasised in the Holy Quran. Salat is one of the mazor topics which Quran Mazeed has emphasised again and again.
Rasulullah (Sm) said, “The first thing we will be answerable for, on the Day of Judgement, is Salah”. In his death-bed he also emphasised on Salah. So, we should renew are commitments to Allah by observing Salat and Siyam to build our lives with human values for our emancipation in this world and salvation in the world hereafter.
The following are the concerned numbers of verses in the Suras of the Holy Quran in which the Injunctions of Salat were revealed. These may be helpful for the readers :

The Holy Quran reveals : “(They are proper Muslims) who pass their nights in ‘sizda’ and ‘qiam’ (in Salat) towards their Lord.”
Taraweeh is one of that night prayer. It is an additional prayer in the Holy Ramzan. It is performed with the ‘Isha.
Rasulullah (Sm) said, “Allah has made the fasting obligatory and offering Salatut Taraweeh is Sunnat.”
Taraweeh is Sunnat-e-Muakkadah. Preferably it is performed in zamat in the mosque. There is ‘Sura-Taraweeh’ or ‘Khatam Taraweeh’. In the ‘Khatam Taraweeh’ the whole Quran Mazeed recitation is completed before the end of the month. It has greater virtue. It is completed preferably till the Shab-e-Qadar, the night of the Revelation of the Quran. As recitation from the Quran is a great virtue in this Holy month of Revelation, the ‘Khatam Taraweeh’ is offered as a continuous process in many mosques in Bangladesh. The Imams, who conduct Khatam Taraweeh are compulsorily Hafiz.
In case a fasting person is unable to attend this, he can perform Taraweeh at home.
Rasulullah (Sm) said: “Those who perform Taraweeh and Tahazzud prayer in the month of Ramzan with the hope of virtue, will be forgiven of their sins,” (Bukhari Sharif, Muslim Sharif)
