Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor on Thursday said there is no alternative to develop oneself, but to practise culture.
“Darkness will engulf the nation again and again, if enlightened people cannot be developed,” he said at a press conference at Sonargaon Hotel in the city.
The press conference was held marking the successful handover of Bengal Foundation-published 40,000 art materials to the public libraries at the district, upazila and divisional levels.
Cultural Affairs Secretary Aktari Mumtaz, Department of Library Director General Ashish Kumar Sarkar, Bengal Foundation Abul Khair and Director General Luva Nahid Chowdhury, among others, also addressed the press conference.
The minister said the evil power of darkness, using the name of religion, is killing free-thinkers, intellectual and teachers believing in the spirit of the Liberation War.
This evil force is committing murders one after another to foil the liberal cultural ideals of Bangladesh, he said and called for resisting the evil force.
Asaduzzaman Noor asked Bengal Foundation to send regularly to the libraries its eight magazines and the brail edition of ‘Jal Pore Pata Nore’.
The number of readers increased in the country, but it is not yet enough, he said and sought cooperation of all, including teachers and guardians, to increase number of readers in the country.
Abul Khair said the Bengal Foundation has given 40,000 art catalogs, folio and books to 70 libraries across the country.
