Residents of Sylhet district city are exasperated with the erratic electricity supply that has been persisting for one-month now.
Particularly the students have become victim to the situation as they cannot study ahead of their examinations.
Besides, the frequent power cuts have been hampering industrial production in the district, forcing many owners of small enterprises to close their businesses, sources said.
Many citizens of the city alleged that their electronic devices, like television set, refrigerator, fan and bulb, had gone out of order due to the frequent fluctuations of voltage.
Manager of Jalalabad Motors in the city Jahangir Ahmed said, ‘Our Workers cannot work uninterruptedly in the factory as power cut occurs six to ten times in a single day.’
‘If the situation continues I will suffer financial losses,’ he also said.
Commissioner of ward no 4 Koyes Ludy said, ‘The people of my ward have lost patience and they are putting pressure on me to go for a movement against the local office of the Power Development Board.’
‘We are not against load-shedding as it is a national problem,’ Salma Akter, a resident of Wemans college road area said.
She also said, ‘It would help if the authority concerned could at least inform us whether there’d be electricity fluctuation.’
Teacher Monir Ahmed said the students could not study due to erratic power supply in the city.
