Poura mayor among 3 held on graft charges

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday arrested three graft suspects, including a Poura mayor, in separate graft cases.
An ACC team, led by deputy director Mozahar Ali Sardar of its Rangpur zila office arrested businessman Golam Kabir Khan from the city’s Mirpur area, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told UNB. On October 28, 2015,
the ACC filed a case against him with Lalmonirhat Police Station for allegedly swindling out over Tk 18 lakh from Sonali Bank’s Lalmonirhat branch.
ACC deputy assistant director Al Amin of Barisal zila office arrested upazila family planning assistant Jasim Uddin in a Tk 3.37 lakh swindling case. Besides, Kalai municipality (Joypurhat) mayor Towfiqul Islam Talukder was arrested from Joypurhat for allegedly misappropriating Tk 22.56 lakh public money by leasing out haats and bazaars violating rules.
