Municipal Mayors, councilors and employees started indefinite sit-in programme in Dhaka for payment of salary from State Treasury.
Employees of about 327 municipalities took part in the programme under the banner of ‘Bangladesh Pourasava Service Association’ held in front of the National Press club from 9am.
“We will continue the sit-in programme until the government meets our demand,” Abdul Alim Mollah, President of the association told The New Nation on Saturday.
Police drove them away from there. Then the programme took place to the opposite side of the National Press Club.
They demanded payment of their salaries, pensions and other financial facilities from the State Treasury.
The leaders of the association claim that many of their colleagues have been suffering as their salaries have not been disbursed for months.
They threatened the government of tougher agitation if their demands were not met.
