Mizanul Haque Mizan, Chuadanga :
The traditional cottage industry of Chuadanga district facing extinction because of manifold problems and lack of necessary assistance.
Once the cottage industries were famous for the produces in the district at present these handicrafts are on the verge of extinction. As result misfortune has come to the life of hundreds of artisan and their families. Many of them have now become jobless leaving the work and profession of their fore father’ s profession and their condition is going from bad to worse .
Most of them are half literate and illiterate. Some of them are day labourers , rickshaw and van pullers and hawkers. The men and women connected with their profession worked from dawn to dusk for earning and their children and members of the families assist them in the production of more and more handicrafts for increasing income. The potter community is also neglected in the district. The earthen pots, jar, different dolls etc, made in the district were supplied to other areas after fulfilling local demands. The varieties commodities in large scale industries are now competitors to those of earths wares.
A large number of potters of Gorgori, Gobindopur, Foridpur, Belgachi, Zamzami, Dahati, Puradoa, Damurhuda, karpasdanga, Hatbualia, Asman khali, Khaskowrra, are the exiting villages of the district for the dwellings of the pottery community.
Most of the families of these villages are the pottery common lenity who are engaged in their forefather traditional job. There are some families in almost all villages in the district who make bamboo and rattan wares.
They are skilled in making bamboo – rattan commodities like winnowing fan coarse mat made of dates leaves palm leaves bamboo slips baskets for carrying goods on the heads cage and pollard are being made by them bamboo is now scares due to lack of planning and nursing.
Besides, for want of requisite fund and un paralleled commodities are not naturally found as before. Once there was hand mill for exploiting oil from oil- seeds in almost all village in the district.
The oil from those mills were pure. But those oil mills are already closed down. some oil mills owner told me that their happy life might be retained if they are patronised by sanctioning loan on easy that they can start their fore father work of they are given chance to buy cows component of oil mills and oil seeds.
