Plantation of potato seeds getting momentum and farmers are giving their full efforts to make all time record potato farming in the district.
District administration is constantly monitoring the overall progress of potato farming and smooth supply of fertilizers, pesticides and other necessary agri-inputs to farmers to achieve a success in farming potato this year.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said the department has fixed a target to cultivate potato on 10,152 hectares of land during this season in the district with production target of 1,80,386 tonnes potato.
Deputy director of DAE M Asraf Ali told BSS that initiatives have been taken for cultivating hybrid variety of potato aiming to produce a record quantity of potato this season.
The DAE, BADC and NGOs have also distributed adequate quality of seeds, other agro-inputs and provided necessary technical assistance to the farmers.
Different NGOs, government and private commercial banks, including Rajshahi Krishi Unnayon Bank, have been disbursed loans among the poor, small and marginal farmers for the programme a success.
Besides, farmers are getting fair price by selling potato. Newly harvesting potato is being sold at Taka 2,500 per bag (85-kg). Farmers in the district are happy over the fair price, he added.
