Positive students’ politics in educational instts emphasised

Speakers at a commemoration programme on Saturday emphasized on fresh and constructive student politics in all educational institutions all over the country.
 “Student politics must be fresh and constructive. It should work in the interest of the general students. The student politics also will create future leader through constructive practice inside and outside the organization,” they said.
They said this at a commemoration programme marking the 43rd death anniversary of Modhu Sudan Dey (Modhu Da) on the premises of the Modhu’s Canteen on the Dhaka University campus.
DU Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique presided over the programme while DU Acting Proctor Professor AM Amzad moderated it.
Former VPs of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) Mujahidul Islam Selim, Mahfuza Khanam, Akhtaruzzaman and Rashed Khan Menon MP, former General Secretaries (GS) Mostaque Hossain and Morshed Alam, former Minister Dilip Barua, former DUCSU leader and President of Bangladesh Awami Swecchashebok League Kawsar Mollah, former President of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Bahalul Majnun Chunnu, former Presidents of
Chhatra Union Aslam Khan and Sharifuzzaman Sharif, PM’s special assistant (media) M Mahbubul Haque Shakil, PM’s APS Saifuzzaman Shikhor and Modhu’s son Arun Dey, former President and General Secretary of BCL, DU unit, Sheikh Sohel Rana Tipu and Sajjad Sakib Badsha respectively, among others, addressed the programme.
Mujahidul Islam Selim said that the student politics lost its image. Student leaders led all the democratic movements in the national interest. Now the leaders are busy in extortion and others unethical activities. It should be changed, he said.
 “Modhu’s Canteen is the hub of fresh student politics. There is no scope to enter here who are involved in extortion and seat business. It is high time to restore the image of student politics. “Clean the campus, Change the campus and Save the campus” should be our slogans,” he said.
Mahfuza Khanam said, the student politics is a must to build a prosperous country. The student politics and its leaders had played important role in all the democratic movement even during the Liberation War in 1971.
 “The student leaders have to practice fresh and constructive politics. They should work in the interest of the general students. They should not involve in any business which will tarnish the image of student politics,” Mahfuza Khanam said.
She said, Modhu gave us inspiration to build the nation. He knew there is no medicine to build a nation without the support of student leaders. That is why he helped the student leaders.
The former student leaders called upon the young generation to work imbued with the spirit of Liberation War.
