Deadline for submission of income tax returns for individuals and companies for the fiscal 2014-15 expired on Sunday with a poor response from taxpayers despite extension of time for twice.
Following the poor response, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) is going for action against those who did not place their income tax returns by yesterday, sources said.
So far 609,973 TIN holders against the targeted 1,700,000 submitted their returns to their respective tax offices till November 20, an unofficial data of the NBR said.
The revised amount is Tk 1000.89 crore in the current fiscal, which was Tk 1,000.234 crore in the last
fiscal, though the number of income tax returns is more this year. An official of NBR not to be named said that they deferred the schedule of submission of income returns twice as per requests from the taxpayers. Even keeping their requests, majority did not respond to the NBR, he added.
“Those, who did not submit the income returns, will suffer punishment and count fine,” he said.
NBR last extended the deadline for submission of income tax returns on November 2 following the poor response from the TIN holders.
