Polls schedule to be announced after Oct 30, says EC Secy

The schedule of the next general election will be announced any day after October 30, said Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed.
 “The countdown to the 11th parliamentary election will start after October 30. The election schedule will be announced but it will be decided by the commission,” he told reporters at Agargaon Election Commission head office on Monday.
Helal Uddin said, they have already completed 80 percent of the preparation to hold the elections that are scheduled to be held in the last week of December.
As part of the preparation, the boundary of 300 constituencies has been fixed, voter list of 10 crore 41 lakh completed, and voter list on CDs prepared, and they will be sent to all districts and upazilas by September 25, the EC secretary said.
He said, the list of polling centres are being sent to the commission and they will be published as a gazette, after being reviewed, 25 days before the election.
Replying to a query about secrecy of RPO amendment and use of EVM, the EC secretary said, there is no matter of hiding. RPO amendment proposal has been sent to the Law ministry for vetting. After vetting it will be sent to the Cabinet, then Parliament, and finally it will be a law.
After completion of all process everybody will know. There is no provision to inform earlier, he added.
