Election to 14 upazila parishads in 10 districts will held on May 19, The Election Commission announced on Wednesday.
Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad announced the schedule of the 6th-phase polls at a press conference at the EC’s Media Centre.
The last date for submission of nomination papers is April 24, while the scrutiny has been set for April 26. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is May 3.
The CEC said the by-polls to chairman post of Tarakanda upazila in Mymensingh will be held on May 19.
In five previous phases elections were held in 459
upazilas out of the country’s 487, said the CEC.
Elections to some upazila parishads are being held for legal tangles. “Whenever we’ll find the court’s clearance, we will arrange the polls in the other upazilas,” he said.
Some other upazilas have not completed their five-year tenures, he added. EC Acting Secretary Sirajul Islam and its Director (Public relations) SM Asaduzzaman were present in the conference.
