About 20 people were injured in a clash between the internees and the employees of the National Medical College Hospital on Saturday on Johnson Road in the old part of Dhaka city.The identity of the injured could not be known immediately. However, names of several of them were Jamil, Saiful, Babul Khan, Israfil, Sohel, Ershad and Elias In protest, the intern doctors in an emergency meeting declared class abstention for infinite period. They have demanded fair investigation for identifying the guilty. The clash took place when a word boy Jamil by name behaved roughly with an female doctor in the hospital. After the incident, the internees placed five-point demands, including suspension of Jamil from his post and intensifying security measures for intern doctors. The doctors called for suspension of Director of the hospital, MA Salam.Shariful Islam, an intern doctors told the media that if the punishment was not given, there will be no security of the intern doctors, adding, “We will neither perform our professional duties nor take classes until our demands were met”.Khalilur Rahman Patwari, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sutrapur Thana said that the police on information rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
