Meanwhile, a mobile court has fined supporters of Awami League-nominated chairman candidate Mizanur Rahman in Gazipur’s Kapasia’s Chandpur union Tk 10,000 for violating the election code of conduct. Khorshed Alam Khan, a journalist with the daily Jugantar and Ananda TV, was attacked while taking pictures. They beat him and threw him on the street.
Kapasia Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Rubaiya Yasmin fined the candidate for violating the code of conduct. Mizanur Rahman and his supporters refused to pay the fine. They surrounded the mobile court without paying a fine. The victim Khorshed Alam Khan was rescued by the locals and sent to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital.
Witnesses said Mizanur Rahman’s supporters were preparing for the rally by arranging chairs and tables at Nalgaon Bazar in Chandpur Union on Saturday afternoon. Upon receiving the news, Executive Magistrate Rubaiya Yasmin appeared there and warned about the violation of their code of conduct. A mobile court led by Mizanur’s son, a boat marker candidate, was fined Tk 10,000 by a mobile court for violating the code of conduct. Extreme tensions erupted when Mizanur and his supporters refused to pay the fine. They surrounded the administration officials and four policemen. When they went to take pictures of the scene, they attacked the journalist. At that time, they beat him severely and left him on the road in a coma. Executive Magistrate Rubaiya Yasmin took refuge in a car in self-defense. Sitting in the car, he informed the matter to Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) AKM Golam Morshed.
