Poll materials sent to centres

The Election Commission has sent over 2.1 crores ballot papers and other election materials, including transparent ballot boxes and irremovable ink to the District Election offices.
Since Tuesday morning, the returning officers of 234 municipalities started handing over election materials, including transparent ballot boxes and ballot papers, to the Presiding Officers.
The Presiding Officers are carrying the election materials to their respective polling centres with the help of the members of law enforcement officials.
Some 1,204 magistrates will be deployed in 233 municipalities across the country for four days ahead of the December 30 election to check the violation of the election code of conduct.
A total of 1197 magistrates — 237 judicial magistrates and 960 executive magistrates — will conduct mobile courts to punish the people guilty of polls code violation from Sunday to Thursday in the municipalities.
Of the 1200 magistrates, 233 executive ones have already been deployed in the same number of municipalities after the deadline for withdrawal of candidature expired.
Besides, at least a judicial magistrate will be deployed in each of 229 municipalities, while two judicial magistrates will be posted in each of four large municipalities, according to EC official said.
More than 70 lakh voters will exercise their franchise to elect their 3145 representatives, including 233 mayors, 727 women (reserved seats) councillors and 2182 general councillors in the 233 municipalities.
