Police recovered the decomposed body of a young woman from a septic tank of a Madrasha toilet at Kadamtola Union Parishad under Pirojpur Sadar Upazila on July 23, but could not yet arrest the accused suspects in a case flied for abduction and murder.
The deceased has been identified as Ayesha Akhtar (24), daughter of Shahjahan Sheikh and Feroza Begum, inhabitants of Kadamtola Union Parishad (Ward-9) under Pirojpur Sadar Upazila.
Her mother Feroza Begum filed a case with Pirojpur Sadar Police Station on 24 July, accusing five persons, including Ayesha’s husband Md Bappi Sheikh, Md Rakib Sheikh, Md Nayan Sheikh, Md Aslam Sardar and Md Babu. Ayesha went missing on 20 July and her body was found dumped at about 4pm on 23 July in the septic tank of the Vora Dakhil Madrasa office with clear signs of torture. “Ayesha was brutally murdered by her husband and his accomplices,” alleged Feroza Begum saying her daughter was killed as she denied hiding her marriage news.
Both of them got married six months ago after having an affair. But Bappi always asked Ayesha not to disclose it to any one. According to the case statement, after the marriage, Bappi used to visit our home frequently and it drew attention of the neighbours. When the neighbours started gossiping about their relationship, Ayesha proposed Bappi to expose the real story, but he advised her to keep silent. But their real affairs were disclosed to all, which made Bappy angry and he began to decline the marriage ties.
At one stage, Ayesha asked Bappi to accept her or she would make the marriage certificates public. Bappi became furious and asked Ayesha to return the certificate to him. As Ayesha declined to give him the marriage documents, Bappy sent his accomplices namely Rakib, Nayan, Aslam and Babu to my home asking her to handover the papers. But she again refused to do it. Before leaving the scene, Bappy’s accomplices threatened her asking not to expose the incident to anybody. The incident took place 15/20 days before the body of Ayesha was found.
According to the case statement, Ayesha Akhtar was watching television at her neighbour’s house at 8pm on July 20. Suddenly, she got a phone call and came out of the home. From then she was missing. Later her body was found in the septic tank.
“None of the accused is yet to be arrested though they killed my daughter brutally. We seek justice,” said Feroza Begum.
When asked, Hasnain Parvez, Investigating Officer (IO) of the murder case, told The New Nation yesterday that police were trying to arrest the accused persons. “On secret information, we have already raided various places in Pirojpur Sadar and Dhaka to arrest the culprits. Our efforts will continue,” he added.
