Sagar Biswas :
Though nine days have already been passed, police are still in the dark to unveil the mystery behind the abduction of Abu Bakar Siddique.
The motive behind the abduction is out of police imagination till the date. More interestingly, the police neither could pick up anyone nor arrest any perpetrator in suspicion of involvement with the kidnapping despite of providing information by the victim’s wife Syeda Rizwana Hassan, executive director of BELA.
Even the place of confinement of Siddique could not be traced by the police despite of several attempts in the last few days.
Meanwhile, there is a widespread speculation that the investigators are now reportedly taking a slow approach in finding out the clue of the mysterious kidnapping.
As per police version the perpetrators were ‘trained’ and ‘professional’ criminals who did not leave any hint at the crime scene.
“We are now investigating the matter. The progress of investigation can not be make public at this moment. In fact, we don’t want to tell
anything about the abduction before reaching our desired goal,” Syed Nurul Islam, Superintendent of Police, Narayanganj told The New Nation Thursday night.
When asked whether police picked up or arrested anybody in this connection, the SP replied, “No we did not arrest anybody till the date. None was also picked up by the police for interrogation in connection with the incident of kidnapping.”
Earlier on April 16, the armed kidnappers intercepted car of Siddique at Bhuigarh in Narayanganj and took him away in a vehicle when he was returning from a garment factory at Fatulla in the afternoon.
But he was freed after 35 hours without paying any ransom and unhurt. Police traced him at an auto rickshaw in the city’s Kalabagan area in the mid night.
“The investigators of the law enforcing agencies are now facing dilemma due to some ‘differing’ statements of victim and his wife about the probable motive behind the abduction,” a senior police official, member of the investigation team, said requesting not to be named.
He said the investigators are now cross-examining the time of abduction and escape route of kidnappers dodging all security surveillance using the busiest road.
Besides, the time of Siddique’s freedom at Mirpur Ansar Camp and his returning home by using an alternative route through Kazipara road also made the investigators more suspicious, the official said, adding that the police are now trying to get answer all of the questions.
Pointing finger towards some business houses, Rizwana just after the abduction had told the media that the businesses like Bashundhara, Modhumoti, Ashiyan as well as the Ship Breakers Association were very angry because of her work.
May be it was them who kidnapped my husband, as he doesn’t have enemies, she said.
