Police seeks remand for 3 accused in Sylhet gang-rape

Police sought a seven-day remand from the court for the three accused of gang rape in Sylhet on Wednesday.
When the kabiraj (village doctor) refused to give him money, the accused kidnapped his relative, a young woman, and raped her.

The investigating officer (IO) of the case, Nirmal Mahanta, made the plea to Sylhet Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court (CMM) on Wednesday.
Police arrested the three persons accused of the rape from Subidhbazar upazila in Sylhet city. Arrested Nizam Uddin, Anwar Hossain Jalil, and Dudu Mia, are from Bankalapara of Subidhbazar upazila.
Sylhet Airport police station Officer in-Charge, (OC) Md Shahadat Hossain, said the victim was under medical supervision at M.A.G Osmani Medical College in Sylhet.
The woman had come to visit her relative, a local kabiraj.
Dudu and Jalil had been demanding money from the kabiraj and threatened him for not giving in to their extortion.
Then, they and some others forcibly took away the kabiraj from his house on Sunday.
They also kidnapped the woman relative of the kabiraj from his house late at night, and gang-raped her.
The victim filed a case with Sylhet Airport police station on Monday.
