Arson on Santal houses: Police reports identify 2 cops

The probe report found a Sub-Inspector (SI) and another Constable of Police were involved in setting fire to Santal houses in Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha district.
Involvement two police personnel were Detective Branch’s SI Mahbubur Rahman and Constable Sazzad Hossain of Gobindaganj Police Station.
Of them, Mahbubur Rahman was attached in Dinajpur district Police (Reserve Force) and Mahbubur Rahman attached in Panchagarh district Police (Reserve Force).
A three-member probe committee led by the additional deputy inspector general of police (Rangpur range) submitted the report through Deputy Attorney General Motahar Hossain Saju as per an earlier order of the High Court.
The probe report was submitted before the High Court bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Krishna Debnath through Deputy Attorney General Motahar Hossain Saju on Thursday. The HC bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Debnath kept the police report in its record.
The DAG told the High Court that Mahbubur and Sazzad have already been suspended for their criminal act.
On November 6 last year, at least three people of the ethnic community died and 25 people were injured in a clash between indigenous people and labourers as well as police at Shahebganj sugarcane farm of Rangpur Sugar Mills in Gobindaganj upazila over land dispute.
Later, after videos appeared of law enforcers setting fire to Santal settlements, the High Court ordered a probe into the matter. The probe found three policemen and locals guilty of their acts.
