Sunamganj police on Thursday conducted daylong raid in different spots in the district and its adjacent areas to unearth the mystery of the abduction of UK BNP leader and member of Sunamganj district BNP Mujibur Rahman, who was recovered from Tongi in Gazipur on Monday.
Two separate teams of police conducted the raid along with Mujibur Rahman and his driver Rezaul Haque Sohel. The raid along with Mujibur Rahman was conducted at the noon, while along with driver in the morning.
Confirming the matter, Sunamganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Harun-or-Rashid said that the police in the daylong raid tried to know how and when Mujibur Rahman was kidnapped and who may be involved with the incident.
He also said that Mujibur Rahman has been providing controversial statement since he was recovered. His information to the media and the relatives is self-contradictory. They are scrutinizing the information given by him, he also said.
However, Mujibur Rahman and his driver were not produced before the court although police earlier said that the duo would be produced before the court on Thursday to record their statements over the abduction.
The SP said that they did not decide to produce them before the court for interrogating him. “Still now. Mujibur Rahman is not an accused. If necessary, we will quiz him for his alleged link,” he said. Additional Superintendent of Police Hemayetul Islam along with several other high officials went to the residence of Mujibur Rahman at Hajipara in Sunamganj district town in the morning. Later, Mujibur Rahman was brought to the office of the SP. BNP’s district unit president Nasir Uddin Chowdhury and former BNP MP Kalimuddin Ahmed Milon were present at the time.
Soon after the recovery of the BNP leader, he was taken to the United Hospital in the capital city. Later, he was sent to Sunamganj. He went missing three and a half months ago after attending a BNP programme in Sunamganj on May 4. A day after he went on missing, his relative Rabiul Islam filed a general diary (GD) with the Sunamganj police. The police later took it as regular case.
Driver Rezaul Haque Sohel had been recovered along with Mujibur Rahman.
