Staff Reporter :Police have strenuously denied the allegation that they have favoured Awami League lawmaker Pinu Khan’s son Bakhtiar Alam Rony in the double murder case investigation.On Sunday, Dhaka Metropolitan Police joint commissioner Monirul Islam told reporters at the DMP media centre the allegation that Rony was given preferential treatment for his mother’s position as a ruling party parliamentarian was groundless.This comes a day after a Dhaka court sent Rony to jail in the case at the end of a four-day remand.Monirul said the double murder was an incident that had no clues.”The Detective Branch of police has specific strategies to probe such incidents and arresting Rony in connection with the double murder was part of the investigation process.The minster on Sunday said actions will be taken against the rapists of a female police constable in the capital.”This is a heinous crime…the responsible policeman will be tried under the police law. If the accused police official is found guilty he will get proper punishment,” he said.The state minister was talking to reporters after a programme at Radisson Hotel in the city. A female police constable of Turag Police Station on Saturday brought an allegation that her estranged husband, an assistant sub-inspector of police, along with his five cohorts raped her in a house on Wednesday at Tilpapara in Khilgaon area.About the allegation of destroying evidence of the gang-rape to protect the criminals, the junior minister said, “This is not true. The government is committed to restoring discipline in police force.”Replying to a question whether the government is trying to save Bakhtiar Alam Rony, son of ruling party MP Pinu Khan, from the charges of double murder, he said, “The government never spares terrorists, no matter how powerful they are.””The government will never spare anyone whether he or she is a minister, MP or his or her son or relatives if they are involved in crimes. No one is above the law,” he said.Asaduzzaman also said the case has been handed over to Detective Branch (DB) to make the investigation more transparent.Zia Mostafiz Bhuyan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khilgaon Police Station, claimed that police visited the spot and collected sample of incident to investigate the rape incident.”We are trying to arrest the main accused Kalimur Rahman following information and hope to enable to detain him soon,” the police official said. The victim’s sister filed a case with the police station in this regard, the OC said.Earlier on Thursday, a female police was gang-raped allegedly by her ex-husband with his four accomplices at a house in the city’s Khilgaon Tilpapara area.The victim, identified as a ‘woman constable’, has been posted at Turag Police Station under Dhaka Metropolitan Police [DMP]. The news broke out in the media when the victim was admitted to One-stop Crisis Centre [OCC] at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital [DMCH] for medical test at 2:00pm on Saturday.The victim claimed that her ex-husband Kalimur Rahman, also the former ASI of Khilgaon Police Station and presently working at the Special Security and Protection Battalion called her at a house and raped her along with his friends. Additional Deputy Commissioner [Media] of DMP Jahangir Alam Sarkar said, “The victim told us that her ex-husband ASI Kalimur Rahman and four others, whom she could not identify, gang-raped her at a house at Khilgaon Tilpapara on that night.”Dr Bilkis Begum, Coordinator of the OCC said, “The victim’s medical examination was conducted on Saturday by the doctors. Forensic test will be conducted on Sunday.”Quoting the victim, Dr Bilkis Begum said she [policewoman] and her ex-husband ASI Kalimur Rahman got divorced a year back following a family feud. They had a daughter. She filed a case against Kalimur after the divorce. The victim said that she was admitted to Rajarbagh Police Lines Hospital on June 10 [Wednesday] for her gynaecological problem. From there her ex-husband tactfully took her to a house in Khilgaon area where Kalimur and his friends raped her overnight.The policewoman lodged a complaint with Khilgaon Police Station on Saturday.
