A new mobile application, Hello CT, has been launched on Sunday for public sourcing militancy information in the backdrop of recent terror attacks in the country.
This app allows anyone to inform the police when they suspect militant activities.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal inaugurated the app that was introduced by the Counter Terrorism
& Transnational Crime Unit of Bangladesh Police.
“People can hide their identities (remain anonymous) while using the app,” the Minister said.
Beside militancy and extremism, police asked people to inform also about cyber crime, bombs, arms, explosives, drugs, criminal activities or information of wanted people, he said.
Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque, said: “Our police department had to wok on sporadic information on crimes previously. Now, we are keen on working in a more organised manner. This app is being introduced as part of that effort in dealing with crimes related to militancy in a more organised way.”
The decision of launching the app came following the recent attacks at Gulshan café on July 1 and Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj on July 7.
Earlier on July 11, in the wake of recent militant attacks, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) launched another mobile application seeking information about terrorist and criminal activities across the country.
DMP Commissioner Md Assaduzzaman Mia, and Additional Commissioner Sheikh Md Maruf Hasan and Additional Deputy Commissioner Sanowar Hossain were present in the function.
