Vehicular movement on different roads leading to Rangpur city remained suspended on Monday morning as transport workers blocked those protesting the Sunday’s alleged police excess on a transport worker leader in the city’s Amtali area.
Rangpur District Motor Workers Union suddenly announced the action programme from an emergency meeting in the morning.
No bus or truck was seen entering the Rangpur city after the strike started in the morning, causing immense suffering to the commuters.
Traffic on different roads, including those of Dinajpur, Thakurgaon, Panchagarh, Nilphamari, Kurigram and Lalmonirhat districts remained halted from the morning, disconnecting Rangpur.
The transport workers blocked the roads at all the entrances to the district at about 6:00am in support of the strike.
