Police enforces nationwide vigil in view of Nasirnagar incident

Police have enforced an intensified vigil nationwide in line with an order issued by police headquarters (PHQ) in view of the Nasirnagar incidents, when miscreants attacked several Hindu temples and households, officials said on Thursday.
“The (PHQ) letter has been issued earlier this week asking police supers particularly to enforce and extra security vigil in the neighbourhoods of the minority communities,” a senior officer in the PHQ told BSS.
He said police across the country launched frequent patrols in the minority prone areas to prevent any attempt to create law and order situation frustrating interfaith harmony.
The letter asked district police chiefs to take all possible measures like staging meetings with people of all religious communities to get them involved in the process of maintaining communal harmony.
It also asked them to take necessary measures to this end and take prompt action in case of getting any allegations of ransacking temples anywhere.
“The letter also asked district police chiefs to remain alert about any post, on the social
networking site, which may instigate and destroy communal harmony in society,” the official said.
After getting the orders, police supers have forwarded the instructions to all the
officers-in-charge (OCs) under their jurisdiction asking them to obey the order.
“After getting the letter, I have held meetings with the people of all community aimed at maintaining communal harmony,” Deputy Commissioner Farid Uddin of Dhaka’s Wari division told BSS.
He said the community leaders were requested to remain alert against any move to destroy communal harmony and intensified intelligence surveillance and patrol in the minority, particularly the Hindu prone areas.
Police Super of Madaripur Sarwar Hossain also said that he had received a letter from the
Police Headquarters with some instructions on taking some measures to maintain communal harmony.
“Security surveillance and patrol have been intensified in the district to ward off any
untoward incident and maintain communal harmony,” he said, adding that they have held meetings with people of all community aimed at making them aware about the menace.
All the officers-in-charge (OCs) of Madaripur district have been asked to remain alert to
this end.
