BSS, Dhaka :
“To keep Bangladesh dynamic and robust the forces of extremism and militancy and its reproductive womb, the BNP, must be deactivated,” Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, MP, said yesterday.
After placing floral wreaths at the portrait of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmandi Road 32, early in the morning, Inu spoke at a rally organized by Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) at Bangabandhu Avenue, soon after.
He said that the “BNP was the poison ivy that was born on the dark night of August 15, 1975”. “It is not enough to trim it, what is necessary is to uproot it, completely,” he added.
In a 20-minute fiery speech the minister said that through the killing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman the defeated forces of 1971 were avenging their rout.
“Through the killing of the Father of the Nation they tried to uproot everything that was attained in 1971 including the state of Bangladesh, its values and history.” “But the conspiracy of the killers were foiled by Sheikh Hasina,” Inu said.
He cautioned the conspirators against any evil design in future. He said that even after 1975 the conspirators had not desisted from their evil designs.
In 2004 Sheikh Hasina was attacked with grenades, Shah A M S Kibria, Ahsanullah Mastar were killed, Udichi and Chhayanaut functions were bombed, shrines of saints were attacked, bloggers were being killed and innocent people were being burnt to death by fire.
The minister said as long as the “factory” for production of extremists and militants, Jamaat-e-Islam, remains along with its chief patron, protector and promoter, BNP, Bangladesh’s development would be retarded.
He called for an end to this military, communal, religion based cocktail and creation of an egalitarian, democratic, prosperous and digital Bangladesh which would be the ultimate tribute to Bangabandhu.
He promised that his party, JSD, would play a leading role in the process. Among others, JSD leaders Nazmul Haq Prodhan, MP, party general secretary, Sharif Nurul Ambia, convener of Nari Jote, Afroza Haq Rina, president of Muktijoddha Sangram Parishad, Advocate Habibur Rahman Shawkat and president of Jubo Jote, Rokonuzzaman Rokon delved on the sacrifice and contribution of Bangabandhu.
The meeting was chaired by the coordinator of the party’s city unit, Mir Hossain Akhtar. Soon after, the minister placed floral wreaths at the newly constructed mural of Bangabandhu at the National Press Club and the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (FDC).
The minister also inaugurated the distribution of food among the destitute at FDC and later at his residence at Dar-us-Salam. Later, he addressed a public meeting organized by his party’s northern city chapter at Dhakhinkhan. He also participated in the Milad Mahfil held at the Bangladesh Television premises.
