The 119th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was celebrated in the country on Friday in a befitting manner.
Born on May 25, 1899 at village Churulia in Burdwan district of West Bengal in India, Nazrul through his fiery poems had inspired people to fight against injustice and repression of the colonial rule.
The government and different socio-cultural and political organisations arranged elaborate programmes, including discussions and placing of wreaths at his grave by the Central Mosque of Dhaka University, on the occasion. President Abdul Hamid inaugurated a three-day national programme in Trishal of Mymensingh in the afternoon.
