Pneumonia, diarrhea break out in Jhenaidah

Pneumonia and diarrhea have broken out in Jhenaidah. About one hundred children have been rushing in the out patient door (OPD) of Jhenaidah Sadar hospital everyday for treatment.
At least 10 children were dead since last November. Of them three had died of pneumonia and diarrhea, the hospital sources said. Drastic change in climate was main reason behind the spread of the diseases, the pediatric specialist in the hospital said. At least 53 patients were accommodated in the hospital. Three patients were accommodated on of the children beds on the hospital.
Resident medical officer (RMO) of Jhenaidah Sadar hospital Dr. Swapan Kumar Kundu said, the number of patients in the district has been increasing day by day due to cold.
Treatment of the affected children were hampered due to shortage of physicians in the hospital. Eight beds were allocated in the pediatric ward of the hospital for the children from the government side, while seven others in local arrangements for the children affected by pneumonia and diarrhea. Other children were treated from the OPD, RMO said. The RMO admitted that 43 children were admitted being affected by pneumonia, while 11 in diarrhea wards till Tuesday. Many of the children were accommodated on the floor of the pediatric ward. Out of two, single pediatric specialist has been facing troubles to ensure treatment for the affected children, Swapan said.
